After each election cycle wraps up, for a brief moment, I always wonder – what’s next? We’ve worked so hard campaigning for candidates to get elected who embody our values, and then after it’s over and the adrenaline wears off, I think to myself – where do we go from here?
Fortunately, I can always count on the People’s Celebration – TakeAction’s annual party where we come together to celebrate building people power together, honor leaders who are making breakthroughs in our movement, and re-commit to the work ahead.
This year, we’re incredibly excited to announce our featured performer at this year’s People’s Celebration – a group who knows a lot about what it means to move forward, pivot, and jump in all directions: SHAPESHIFT! 🎉🎉🎉 |
SHAPESHIFT is a Minneapolis-based dance collective, bringing dance-theater storytelling to audiences across the state and beyond. All together, these eight dancers become a hip-hop-contemporary-house-lyrical-jazz-modern-breakdance-ballet (etc.) crew. Founder Ashley Selmer (who danced in one of Prince’s music videos) has worked as a freelance choreographer for the Ordway and the Children’s Theater. Her jazz-funk gestural style helps sharpen SHAPESHIFT’s choreographies into narratives – part dance and part theater.
SHAPESHIFT has done a number of high-profile shows, including Xcel Energy center for packed houses, Lincoln Center in New York, and as back-up dancers for JLo.
