Hey there --
Our campaign to Stop Toxic Twitter is making a difference. Elon Musk says Twitter has seen a massive drop in ad revenue, the platform’s main source of revenue.

In the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, we brought together a coalition of more than 60 civil society and civil rights organizations to call on Twitter’s top advertisers to stop spending on the platform globally . And Elon is feeling the pressure.
A recap of how we got to where we are today:
On Wednesday, he held a Twitter Spaces to try and assure advertisers, but as usual – he put his foot in his mouth instead. The truth is, Musk can’t hide that Twitter is facing a massive crisis with him at the helm:
- The Hill: Groups call on top Twitter advertisers to press Musk to enforce rules
“Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, Google and Disney were among the 20 advertisers to receive the open letter, signed by groups including the NAACP, the Center for American Progress, GLAAD, the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, and #Voteprochoice. The effort was organized by Free Press, Media Matters and Accountable Tech.”
- BBC News: Activists target Twitter advertisers over hate speech fears
“Nicole Gill, co-founder and executive director of Accountable Tech, says: ‘Unless and until Musk can robustly enforce Twitter’s existing community standards, the platform is not safe for users or advertisers.’"
- New York Times: Twitter’s Advertisers Pull Back as Layoffs Sweep Through Company
“‘A coalition of civil rights and activist groups called a news conference to push for a global advertising boycott of Twitter. “We are witnessing the real-time destruction of one of the world’s most powerful communications platforms’; said Nicole Gill, the executive director of the nonprofit group Accountable Tech, on the call.”
- Bloomberg: Musk Says Twitter Had ‘Massive Drop’ in Revenue on Ad Pullback
“‘Elon Musk is an erratic billionaire who has promised to roll back critical safeguards Twitter has put in place,’ said Nicole Gill, co-founder and executive director of digital rights group Accountable Tech, which helped organize an initiative to lobby CEOs to pull back spending from Twitter if it lowers safety standards.”

Musk has already spread dangerous conspiracy theories to his 115 million followers, and limited staff access to content moderation tools, opening the door to more hate and extremism on the platform. And that was all BEFORE he fired nearly half of Twitter’s staff, slashing teams that oversaw content moderation just 5 days ahead of the midterm election. We can’t continue to allow an erratic billionaire to control our information ecosystem. Help us fight back by chipping in to support our work. [[link removed]]
Until Musk can invest in and prioritize enforcing Twitter’s existing community standards, the platform is unsafe for users and advertisers.
Thanks for being with us,
