Dear Friend,
Election day has come and gone, but the outcomes of many key races remain unclear. Like you, I’m following the news, waiting for answers: What will the Republican majority in the House be? Will Democrats eke out a majority in the Senate?
We may not have final results for days or weeks to come, but no matter what happens in the election, one thing is certain: Congress must act now save DACA. If they don’t pass legislation to permanently protect Dreamers by the end of the year, DACA is almost certain to be struck down in the courts for good.
Over 80,000 Dreamers are LGBTQ people, the vast majority of whom are from countries where it is extremely dangerous to be queer or trans. We must demand that Congress protect LGBTQ young people from deportation. Please take a moment to call your members of Congress and urge them to stand up for Dreamers.
DACA has been a critical lifeline for LGBTQ Dreamers, protecting them from having to return to countries they may not have set foot in since childhood and where their lives are in danger due to their LGBTQ status.
Democrats likely only have a few weeks left to rally enough votes to push forward a bill to protect Dreamers. The Immigration Equality Action Fund is actively lobbying lawmakers to protect these young people. Won’t you join us in protecting DACA and LGBTQ Dreamers by contacting your member of Congress today?
Thank you,
Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director
Immigration Equality/Immigration Equality Action Fund
