NASN is now accepting nominations for Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the National Academy of School Nursing. The honor of Fellow is the most prestigious recognition that members can receive from NASN, a symbol of superior achievement in the school nursing profession and exceptional contributions to NASN and the school nursing profession. The new Honorary Fellow award is an esteemed recognition for non-nurses who are leaders in their fields and committed contributors and supporters of the NASN Vision that all students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

Youth vaping is a concern, and schools may use many approaches to discipline students caught vaping at school. The Journal of School Nursing (JOSN) article, California School Staff Reports of Seeing Students Vaping at School and Disciplinary Actions, studies the prevalence of school staff seeing vaping in schools and the measures used to discipline students and highlights the school nurse's role in addressing student vaping.

School Nursing Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Type 1 Diabetes

World Diabetes Day is November 14. The 2022 campaign focuses on better access to quality diabetes education for healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes. Children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) experience multiple challenges in school that can increase their risk for diabetes-related complications. A safe and supportive environment must exist in schools for students. And school nurses provide leadership in the school setting to support resilience and self-management for these students. NASN’s School Nursing Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Type 1 Diabetes provides evidence-based recommendations to assist school nurses in improving the health and safety of the school-age child with T1D. School Nursing Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Type 1 Diabetes Toolkit helps school nurses implement those recommendations and includes multiple tools and resources.

This session, first presented at Virtual NASN2021, now available in the NASN Learning Center, offers a review of tech's addictive potential and what the latest study says on Gaming disorder and technology dependence.

Results from a study evaluating school nurse access to a hospital-based electronic health record (EHR) determined the impact of school nurse access to protected health information in an EHR on school nurse satisfaction with care coordination for children in schools with chronic medical conditions. In the course Access to Medical Records in an Electronic Health Record, you'll learn about barriers to communication and care coordination between hospitals and school nurses, ways school nurses can develop partnerships with hospitals through the use of EHRs, and the benefits of allowing school nurses access to a hospital-based EHR. This research session was initially presented at Virtual NASN2021 and is now available in the NASN Learning Center.

Hyperhidrosis is a serious medical condition characterized by excessive, uncontrollable sweating that nearly triples anxiety and depression risks. Together with its community, the International Hyperhidrosis Society (IHhS) is working to lift hyperhidrosis out of hiding so people experiencing the condition can find treatment. Raise awareness about how extreme sweating needs extra attention, treatment, and understanding. CDC surveillance has shown an increase in RSV detections and RSV-associated emergency department visits and hospitalizations in multiple U.S. regions, with some regions nearing seasonal peak levels. Clinicians and public health professionals should be aware of increases in respiratory viruses, including RSV. Learn more and see CDC RSV resources.

The National Alliance for Children’s Grief shares resources helpful to create space for children to speak.
