Dear reader,
Tuesday night’s election results were an incredible surprise. As vote counts pour in and we start to get a better picture of the final outcome, we want to acknowledge the uncertainty that many of our readers may be feeling right now. There’s a lot at stake, and many of the races that have still not been called could mean the difference between a Congress that can deliver for working people and a Congress entrenched in partisan gridlock.

As we send this, it appears increasingly likely that Democrats will retain control of the Senate while Republicans will win a narrow hold on the House. Yet even in a divided Congress, there are many things the Biden administration and the Democrats can accomplish that will make a real difference in the lives of working people.  In fact, we’ve been monitoring them throughout Biden’s first term at our Executive Action Tracker.

At the Prospect, we’re committed to reporting on how progressive change can happen through our institutions, and the dynamics that rule Washington and beyond. We will continue to do this work through whatever the next Congress brings.

Thanks to the support of readers like you, we've been able to make sense of Washington and report on how our institutions really work. We have a lot to be proud of — from our extensive midterm coverage reporting on the most impactful races this cycle, to exploring what really matters to voters in this political climate, to shining a light on corporate wrongdoing.

Our website is not paywalled because we think it’s important that our reporting on ideas, politics and power is accessible to all. But to follow through on our mission, we rely on readers like you to make it financially possible.

If you are already a Prospect member, thank you! Your support has helped us immensely. Please consider an additional donation, or step up to join the Prospect Legacy Society and make an impact long into the future.
