Folks —
After an exciting election cycle and a busy few months of meeting with voters across Wisconsin, I wanted to share with you what’s on my mind.
First of all, I’m so proud of Tony Evers for winning a second term as Governor. I’m so proud of Mandela Barnes, who fell a bit short of what was an incredibly hard-fought campaign for the Senate. And I’m so grateful for this incredible grassroots team who fought alongside us every step of the way.
Wisconsin saw an unprecedented amount of Republican super PAC money come into our state. After Joe Biden’s narrow victory here in 2020 ( really narrow — 0.6%!), Wisconsin has been a target for Republicans looking for revenge.
And although Republicans held onto the Senate seat, Democrats still had some big wins here and across the country.
We re-elected Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul. We stopped a Republican supermajority in the state legislature that would have been eager to bring our state backward on abortion access and voting rights. And folks, we flipped a crucial U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, bringing us one step closer to holding onto the Democratic Senate majority!
Above all, as I traveled across Wisconsin, meeting with voters, I feel excited about what’s next for our state. I heard stories of hope, of people persisting through challenging times, of coming together to help each other out.
That’s what being a Wisconsinite is all about — focusing on what unites us and sharing kindness with each other.
Now, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get back to work in the Senate. We’ve achieved so much this year, like lowering costs of prescription drugs and fighting the climate crisis, but we have a lot of work ahead.
I’m going to fight my heart out to pass federal protections for marriage equality, to lower costs for working families, to restore reproductive rights for women in Wisconsin and across the nation, and so much more. And I’m most certainly going to be helping my friend, Reverend Raphael Warnock, who faces a tight run-off Senate race next month in Georgia.
Thank you so much for all your hard work this year. Election seasons can be tiring, but when so much is at stake, it makes a big difference to have you involved in our work.
More soon,
Tammy
