Thank you NY-21

This campaign started with an idea – that our strength as a nation comes from standing together. Together is in our DNA. Our constitution begins with the words “We the people”. We are one nation and our strength has always come from standing together.

We launched this campaign in response to those who would threaten our unity with division, who would threaten the peaceful transfer of power with violent insurrection, who would threaten the truth of our common identity as Americans with lies in support of tribal preference. I took an oath to support and defend our Constitution, a lifelong commitment to protect and cherish our democracy. And it is because of my deep rooted faith in our democracy that I celebrate what we just participated in - a free and fair election. While I am heartbroken that we came up short, the people of NY-21 have spoken and I respect their voice in this election. In order for us to fortify our democracy, we must show the strength of our willingness to accept the results of our elections, even when we don’t like them. And as I wish Congresswoman Stefanik congratulations in her victory, it comes with an important and stark reminder; this office does not belong to any politician, it belongs to us.

I am incredibly proud of what we were able to build together. 65,000 miles on my truck, hundreds of community events, town halls in every county - and who knows how many burgers – we showed up and delivered what so many have been thirsting for: a chance to be heard, a chance to belong, a chance to come together. None of that would have been possible without the tireless effort and dedication of so many of you. Thank you to our hundreds of volunteers who dedicated so much of their time and energy into this campaign. Democracy is not a spectator sport and you are the backbone of the democratic process. Most importantly, thank you to voters who placed your faith and trust in me. I am incredibly humbled that you placed your hope in me and in this campaign. It has been a responsibility and an honor that I have taken seriously from the beginning. Hope is never misplaced. Hope is the seed of progress. Hope is the seed of change. It may not bloom on a timeline of our choosing – but the investment
of hope is never wasted. I will forever be indebted to all of you for the hope you placed in me and our campaign.
