Totstime at Bilborough Library

Councillor Wendy Smith with baby Molly

The start to a child’s life is so important for their future, it’s a time where they need to be supported and nurtured as they first start exploring the world and developing. For those with young children under five, it can be difficult to find free, engaging sessions, where they can meet other young children, and where parents and carers can meet each other.

Bilborough Library is filling in this gap by offering free Totstime sessions every Monday from 2pm -2:30pm. These are a great fun filled interactive half an hour, for all children under five. Run by library staff they include a story reading, singing, instruments and puppets.

It’s a great way to get children engaged in books and the library service as well as being a really fun way to learn new songs and rhymes with your child. Most importantly, it’s a free way for children to mix with those of their own age. Services like these are so important and it's great that our Library service is able to continue to provide them, especially as times are getting harder.

So if you have young children, come on down on Monday and join in the fun. You may even see Cllr Rebecca Langton there with her daughter (and Cllr Smith joins in the fun too!).

Edale Adventures!

Edale adventures

Evolve Nottingham CIC were recently given an amazing opportunity, working on a joint project together with the Youth Hostel Association (YHA), and Kate Rand from Nottingham City Homes (NCH).

A group of 30 local young people went to the Edale Activity Centre in Derbyshire for a three day adventure which involved a range of activities including canoeing, archery and even a night hike.

Evolve said “This was an amazing experience for everyone involved, we really can’t thank the YHA and NCH enough for this amazing opportunity. It is something that the young people will never forget and has changed lives”.

Bilborough’s Programme for Street Improvement

Streets for people

As part of the Streets for People programme, we have agreed a ÂŁ630,700 agenda for improving some of the pavements and roads in Bilborough.

This is money which is reserved for highway work and cannot be spent on anything else. It sounds like a lot of money, but given the amount of work needed it is a drop in the ocean.

Some of the roads on the list are Bracebridge Drive, Burnside Green, Melbury Road, St Martin’s Road and Stagsden Crescent. We are also setting money aside for tree work and public bin replacement. You can find out more by visiting the Streets for People website.

Meet your local Councillors!

bilborough

Drop-in surgeries with your local Councillors take place regularly, so why not come along to ask a question or share an idea on how to make Bilborough a better place to live.

They are currently at Bilborough Library every Saturday between 10am and 11am.

Christmas in Nottingham

What's on this winter in Nottingham

Do you know where to look for money help and advice?

Cost of living

As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis bites, we have launched a campaign to tell people where to look for money help and advice in Nottingham.

The Ask Lion website www.asklion.co.uk/money is a useful one-stop-shop that pulls together simple steps everyone can take to help manage their finances. The advice covers budgeting, benefits, savings, debt, housing problems, food banks and ways to reduce household bills.

The Ask Lion website also signposts people to a wide range of support agencies who can give you free and confidential advice with more complex money problems.

There is obviously a close link between money worries, stress and anxiety. So it’s important to know that mental health support is also available through www.asklion.co.uk/mentalhealth with a directory of local confidential support services.

If you’re worried about money this winter, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone and help is available in Nottingham.
