Medicare-for-All, Maybe

What to Know: Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren seems to be easing off her plan to ban private insurance in favor of Medicare-for-All.

The TPPF Take: Medicare-for-All polls well, until people learn more about it.

“Medicare-for-All is not an expansion of Medicare but the creation of something altogether new,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “It would devour all other government-run health plans (Medicaid, VA) and even largely outlaw private insurance—no wonder Americans, and now even Sen. Warren, are backing away from it.”

The Best of Times

What to Know: By nearly any measure of human progress available, the last decade has been the best in human history.

The TPPF Take: Improvements made in our environment, our economy and our world are cause for celebration.

“There’s a strong case to be made for optimism,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “Instead of leading us to environmental disaster, our economic prosperity—made possible by our diversified and reliable energy system—has enabled investments in technologies to improve environmental quality and human health. This shows we can achieve both prosperity and a cleaner environment through abundant, affordable energy.”

Homeless in California

What to Know: The Golden State’s homelessness problem just continues to get worse.

The TPPF Take: California’s state and local policies are at the heart of the homelessness problem.

“California’s progressive left policies are killing the state,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “They have half of the nation’s unsheltered individuals in one state, in California. … However, I know a lot of nonprofits out in California would certainly love to see a change in policy, and maybe we’re going to see that and maybe we will start to see a reduction in the homeless population.”
