We?ve taken our popular elementary?geography activity?to the next level. In this Kahoot! game, students put their scavenger hunt skills to the test to find a geographer named Gina who loves to travel and has escaped to an undisclosed location. They?ll use Census Bureau data-powered clues about landmarks, weather, population, and more to locate Gina and bring her back to school.

Play It Safe

Emergency Preparedness. Our Play It Safe! activity teaches elementary students how the U.S. Census Bureau helps emergency responders plan for and provide support during natural disasters. They will complete tasks such as creating an emergency preparedness kit, determining the states with the highest risk for hurricanes, and reviewing a series of photos of houses to determine which structures are most likely to survive a natural disaster.

Changes to the environment

Changes to the Environment. Our Examining Changes to the Environment Through Pictures and Data activity has middle school students examine how human actions and population changes can affect the environment. Students will describe the impact of changes they see in a series of photographs comparing famous landmarks (Times Square, the Saltair Pavilion in Utah, Laguna Beach, and Niagara Falls) across time and identify human-generated changes such as the addition of bridges and roads.

Understanding Land Use. For our Beyond Population ? Using Different Types of Density to Understand Land Use activity, high school students use images, U.S. Census Bureau data, and interactive maps to visualize and calculate arithmetic (population), agricultural, and physiological densities at local, regional, and national scales.
