The devastating floods in Pakistan are a stark reminder of the links between debt and climate justice. Pakistan was already in a debt crisis before the flash floods unleashed widespread destruction – with $12.5 billion of debt repayments due this year alone.
It's outrageous that countries that have contributed the least to the climate crisis, are the first to pay the price. What will world leaders do about this?
Next week, they will be gathering in Egypt for the international climate talks, COP 27. Protest in Egypt will be severely curtailed, so on Saturday 12th November, people around the world are marching in solidarity with campaigners in Egypt, and to call on world leaders to protect both people and planet.
