It’s official! The people and values of New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District will now, once again, have representation in the House of Representatives. Congratulations to Gabe Vasquez!

This is a huge victory for New Mexico and our country. For pragmatism and working class values. And for our fight to deliver an economy that works for everyone — not just the wealthy; protect abortion rights and our land and water; and take on the climate crisis with urgency.

I’ve known Gabe a long time and I was proud to endorse him early — well before his primary — because I’ve seen firsthand that he has what it takes to get things done for New Mexico.

In fact, I go against conventional political wisdom and “wall leaners” — I endorse early and often. And that’s not all.

- Alongside my team, we find, recruit, and encourage people to run for office — the folks everyone knows and respects in their communities, who often just need a nudge and a point in the right direction.
- Once they decide to run, I endorse early and I fundraise often — in-person, on calls, and by email (I know, I know, you’ve seen the emails!).
- I join them in canvassing their neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and grappling with the issues their communities face.
- I’m lucky to know many of the campaign and party staff and volunteers who work these races, too. So I do all I can to make sure they have what they need to get the job done.
- And thanks to your generosity, we donate directly into their campaigns. Every dollar we can.

Gabe’s race is a prime example of how you can make a huge difference in the outcome of a race by encouraging strong candidates and providing them the resources and support they need early on. It may be a risk — but the right risks pay off. That’s exactly what happened in New Mexico’s 2nd District — and in nearly every race I’ve endorsed this cycle.

From the congressional wins to the county commission wins, this simply wouldn’t have happened without your support of the effort we’ve built. Thank you! And thank you to all of the volunteers, campaign and party staff, and voters who fought hard to power us all the way to the finish line.

I’m looking forward to fighting for our public lands, our economy, and more alongside Gabe in Congress. We’re still only at the beginning.
