Dear John,
The residents of the District of Columbia have spoken. Together, we are going to usher in a new era for our city.
Since I announced my candidacy for At Large in July, I have been engaging residents from across the city: Anacostia, Deanwood, Shepherd Park, Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Michigan Park, Shaw, Chevy Chase, and every neighborhood in between. The results from this election make clear that regardless of where you live, we are all united under a common vision for our city: every resident deserves to live in a safe neighborhood with opportunities that can make life better tomorrow, and every day after, than today.
Voters have also delivered a message: we need to take bold steps to address some of the greatest challenges facing the District. For the last ten years, I have spearheaded innovative and data-driven policies to tackle the root causes of crime, expand and invest in the city’s supply of affordable housing, address the legacy of institutional discrimination that has led to our city’s growing racial wealth gap, and help our local economy recover stronger than ever from the pandemic. And as your next At-Large Councilmember, I'll continue to work with you and my colleagues on the DC Council to confront head-on our most pressing issues with solutions, not simply paid lip service.
Thank you to my extraordinary campaign team for all of their hard work in helping us build a diverse coalition that truly reflects all of the voices of the District of Columbia.
Thank you to my family, my wife Princess and two daughters Jozi and Kesi. They are my entire world, and I couldn’t have done it without their support, encouragement, and of course, patience, throughout this journey.
And finally, thank you. Your trust in my leadership and vision for our city will continue to be the foundation of my agenda on the Council in the years to come.
I am proud of what we have accomplished together. We’re celebrating this special moment but make no mistake: we still have a lot of work to do. And together, I am confident that we will make the District of Columbia a place that we are all proud to call home.
In Service,
Kenyan
