John, we did it: together, we flipped NM-02 blue! I am incredibly honored and grateful to be your Congressman-elect. Thank you for your support, your love, your kindness, your time, and your passion throughout this entire congressional campaign. As I traveled throughout our district over the past year, I heard from so many families. Their stories shine a light on New Mexico’s greatest strengths, our biggest challenges, and our highest hopes. Because behind every story is a dream, and behind that dream is a sense of hope and belief in a better way — a belief that here, in our America, anything is possible with hope, hard work, drive, and determination. My own story has taught me to believe that this is the only place in the world where a son of immigrants from Mexico with barely more than the shirt on their backs could one day be elected to serve in Congress. Throughout the journey of this campaign, I’ve been reminded time and time again of the value of optimism in the face of adversity. Because the New Mexico families I’ve seen struggling with rising costs, those worried about losing their freedoms, and the folks nervous about threats to our democracy all feel the weight of these challenging times, but they never doubt that better days are possible. And they never, ever, stop fighting. Because THAT is who we are. We’re a state that punches above our weight and a people who fight even harder when our backs are to the wall. We value opportunity and fairness, justice, and equality. We believe in the rule of law and the strength of a vibrant Democracy. We cherish our families and are enchanted by possibility. But, like so many of our fellow Americans, we’ve been disappointed by a lot of what’s going on in Washington. We want politicians to stop fighting about what caused inflation and start investing in American manufacturing so we can lower costs and create new jobs. We want them to stop selling out to the pharmaceutical companies and start making prescription drugs affordable. We want them to stop pointing fingers and start fixing our broken immigration system. And we want them to get the heck out of doctors’ offices so women can make their own healthcare decisions. You have put your trust in me and, rest assured, I will go to Washington to fight for you. Because, make no mistake about it, there is nothing that happens in Washington that New Mexico can’t do better. Thank you to my family whose love fuels everything I do. Thank you to my staff whose talent and passion were at the foundation of this campaign. And thank you to everyone who cast a vote, put up a sign, talked to a friend, sent a text, made a phone call, or just wished us luck.
