You may have seen by now that the results of yesterday’s election did not go our way. I am processing the outcome and feeling a range of emotions and reactions…but more than anything, I want you to know that I am filled with gratitude and pride.

How can I not feel privileged to have been the Democratic candidate in this district that I have called home for over 30 years?

Not in a million years did I expect to be here.

Thank you to my family for their support; my team for their unwavering can-do attitude; our incredible volunteers who showed up consistently for 15 months and vouched for me when talking to voters; and every single donor who took my call and financially supported our grassroots efforts. I am so grateful, and so proud, of everything we did together.

Over 135,000 people voted for me—can that really be considered a loss?

I ran on being accessible to the people, being held accountable as a leader and candidate for public office. The vast majority of folks we talked to told us they had never once heard from Ann Wagner. They deserve better, and I am sad that we could not deliver the change needed this time around. It is clear that as Missourians, and as Americans, we have so much more work to do to finally get through to one another.

Abortion, reducing gun violence, and voting rights were also on the ballot. Again—we have our work cut out for us, as Missouri continues its regrettable slide to the bottom.

Time will tell, but I'm hopeful. The generations coming behind me—they rolled up their sleeves, got engaged, volunteered, and organized—They will reverse this course, if we have the will to stand with them going forward.

I can tell you that I'm not going anywhere. I was an engaged citizen and a community volunteer long before I was asked to run for elected office, and I promise that I will continue to do the work. Sometimes, you can get more done behind the scenes.

So please: take a moment, take a breath, relax, and take heart as we gear up for 2024. As long as I am needed, I'll be by your side as an activist, and friend, in the trenches. Count on it.
