Dear John,

It's terrifying and it's true! Soaring budget deficits, caused largely by the unpaid-for Trump-GOP tax law, are putting Social Security and Medicare at risk. That's because fiscal hawks in Congress plan to pay for their $1.5 trillion tax law, which mainly benefits the very rich, by cutting our nation's social safety net programs. Yet, tax expenditures (including this Trump-GOP tax law) are the biggest drivers of the debt, not Social Security and Medicare Part A, which are fully self-funded. And the fact is, the Trump-GOP tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans are bringing in less revenue from millionaires, billionaires and multinational corporations, which is a big reason for the massive budget shortfall.

Please help the National Committee remind our elected officials in Washington that millions of Americans are paying into Social Security and Medicare and expect their benefits to be paid IN FULL when they retire by signing our Petition to Congress today! As someone who is either now collecting Social Security and Medicare benefits — or who plans to in the near future — YOUR voice should be heard in this critical debate.

The 2019 federal deficit is now expected to surpass a record $1 trillion — not seen since the four years following the Great Recession — and some lawmakers remain fixated on slashing Social Security and Medicare in order to pay it down! That's why the National Committee is fighting to protect the benefits you've earned and are counting on in your retirement. Your signed petition, when combined with hundreds more from your district, will send a powerful message to your member of Congress that your earned benefits should not be used to pay for other fiscal priorities. There is a menacing cloud forming over Social Security and Medicare, so there is no time to lose!

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
