1) Red Wave Was A Red Trickle
Loyal readers:

Sorry. We got it completely wrong and we’re wiping the egg off of our faces. We were bullish on a big blowout win for the GOP. We were persuaded that Biden’s policies and results have been so irrefutably ruinous and incomprehensible that Americans would kick the rascals out.

The electorate disagreed. (Apparently not enough people are getting the Hotline.)

2) Go Figure!
And while we’re on the subject of mind edits, explain this?

Less than one-of-four Voters say they think things in the country are going “in the right direction.” But then they went into the voting booth and voted back in all the incumbents. This was the most pro-incumbent election in modern times.

3) Another Sign Ron DeSantis Was The Big Winner
Betting odds overnight soared for DeSantis to win the Republican nomination and win the presidency in 2024. Trump’s odds dropped. And Biden’s stock rose too.

4) Tennessee Enshrines Right To Work In It’s Constitution; Illinois Enshrines Forced Unionism
If you want to understand the difference between a red state and a blue state these days, here’s a perfect example from dueling ballot initiatives in the Volunteer State and the Land of Lincoln.

Which state would you want a build a business or plant in?

5) Why Lee Zeldin Lost In New York And DeSantis Won A Blowout In Florida
Lee Zeldin made a valiant run for Governor of New York, but he fell five percentage points short.

Why is it so hard for a Repub to win in New York even against an incumbent Kathy Hochul who is clearly in way over her head?

The chart below shows the net migration numbers over the past decade. New York has lost one million people on net. Florida has gained one million people. This is a little bit of an oversimplification but most of those who have left NY for Florida are Republicans fed up with high taxes, high crime, bad schools, etc. If they were still living and voting in NY (and who can blame them for leaving?) Zeldin could have won. Sadly, four more years of Hochul will probably lead to a further stampede out of the Empire State.

6) Not Much Of A Wave
