When abortion is on the ballot, we win.

That's the first thing you should know about yesterday's election results. A clear, undeniable, irrefutable message from voters. We saw it in places as diverse as California, Vermont, Michigan, Montana, and Kentucky — in every single state where abortion was on the ballot, voters chose reproductive freedom.

THANK YOU for doing your part, for speaking out, for spreading the word about what was at stake. THANK YOU to every Planned Parenthood supporter who donated and volunteered to contact voters. THANK YOU to everyone who voted to defend our health and rights.

There's never been any doubt that the majority of people are with us. They want to protect the right to abortion and leave medical decisions in the hands of patients and providers. The only question was whether the votes would be there to protect reproductive rights.

That question has been answered, loud and clear. Along with critical ballot victories that protect the right to abortion in state laws and constitutions, proud reproductive rights champions won high-profile races.

Governors like Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan, Tony Evers in Wisconsin, Tim Walz in Minnesota, Laura Kelly in Kansas, and Janet Mills in Maine can continue fighting to protect the reproductive health and rights of all their constituents.

We're still waiting to see final results in many key races, including those that will determine who controls the U.S. House and Senate. But we do know that we will still be able to count on champions like Maggie Hassan, Patty Murray, and Michael Bennet in the Senate. And we know that bold defenders of abortion access defied the pundits and won close races in congressional races.

As we wait for some close races to be called, we know abortion rights champions didn't win every race. It's too soon to know whether we'll have a Senate majority that respects reproductive freedom, and we have a lot of work ahead in places like Florida and Texas. But we also know that because you showed up and showed out, reproductive rights champions won many states across the country.

YOUR energy, dedication, and commitment to getting out the vote made reproductive freedom a defining issue.

We'll have more to say about the election in the days to come. And — if you haven't already — you'll likely soon hear about state and local races from your local Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organization. Today we want to celebrate the victory this movement has made possible at the national level.

From all of us here at Planned Parenthood Action Fund, congratulations — and THANK YOU!
