John,

I am a proud care voter – and yesterday I saw democracy in action. Tens of millions of voters like you and me turned out in droves for the midterms to protect our democracy, our right to safe and legal abortions, and our ability to care for our families.

It’s too early to announce who will control the House and Senate because of the sheer amount of mail-in ballots and how close races are in Nevada, Arizona, and more. It's going to take days (and maybe even weeks) to count every ballot – and Georgia's Senate seat will now go to a run-off election on December 6th.

This is not cause for alarm! It means democracy is working. In fact, it is cause for hope.

While votes are being counted, you may hear misinformation about the election results. We cannot be distracted by people who want to tear down our democracy. There’s too much at stake.

No matter who says what on Twitter or the news, here's the real truth of the moment ⬇️

Care costs are at an all-time high because of decades of severe underfunding. If electeds – no matter the party – don’t invest in paid leave, child care, and care programs that enable aging adults and disabled people to live at home, millions of us will continue to struggle to do what matters most ➡️ care for the people we love.

I voted because I know how urgent the fight for better care is. Addressing our care needs will allow caregivers to take time from work without needing to quit, create good jobs for care workers, and enable our loved ones to live and age in the community.

It’s going to take a little longer to know who we’ll be working with in Congress – but any elected leader who is serious about moving this country forward will make care their top priority in 2023. And, regardless of which party controls Congress, we won’t stop pushing for progressive care policy at the state and federal level until we get the attention we deserve.
