Friend,
Yesterday and in this election season, voters like you
turned out in massive numbers to help Democrats across the
country defeat conventional wisdom and partisan polls — winning a
chance to maintain control of the Senate and minimize losses in (or
even win) the House.
While we don’t yet know the final balance of power in Congress,
this is a historically strong showing and it’s because of organizers
and people like you.
Thank you to everyone who put their souls into this
election season, whether you voted, helped other voters,
donated, or spread the word to your neighbors.
Here’s some of what we accomplished together:
🗳️ Bend the Arc leaders and volunteers took action to support a
historic slate of candidates and ballot measures.
🤝 We built power with incredible partners like New Georgia Project,
People’s Action Wisconsin, Durham for All, Black Futures Lab, Seed the
Vote, and so many more.
🎉 We elected new progressive leaders like Summer Lee, who will be
the first Black woman elected to the House in Pennsylvania, and
defeated MAGA Republicans like Dr. Oz.
What we were up against this election season:
The MAGA movement is working to shrink who has
rights in this country, whose voice counts, and who
belongs.
The Senate failed to pass legislation to protect
the freedom to vote, and multiple state legislatures passed laws to
sabotage fair elections.
Politicians and pundits used anti-Black racism and
antisemitism to spread fear and division,
targeted progressive candidates of color, and
campaigned on bigotry, disinformation, and
intimidation.
Despite these deliberate barriers erected to stop us from
voting — especially Black, brown, and young people — our
communities turned out in record
numbers.
Our work together isn’t done yet. No matter the result, we are
still obligated to build the world to come.
Over the coming days and weeks, we must make sure every
vote is counted.
Then, we’ll organize to hold the new Congress
accountable and keep pushing the Biden administration to take
meaningful action to protect our freedoms and invest in our
communities.
We know the MAGA takeover of the Republican party means
antisemitism, anti-Black racism, and white nationalism will continue
to threaten our communities. This election has shown that when
we join with our neighbors across lines of difference, we can build
powerful coalitions that make history.
At Bend the Arc, we’ll be there for the fights we have ahead — for
Black liberation, against white supremacy, and for the inclusive
multiracial democracy we all deserve.
With gratitude and solidarity,
The Bend the Arc team
P.S. Please save the date for Sunday, December 11 for a
special call with Bend the Arc on the post-election landscape
and how you can get involved.
