Plastic is the most prevalent material found across national parks, making up 81% of trash recorded. We published a report outlining top items and brands, as well as actionable recommendations for policymakers, parks, and visitors.
Forget about recycling... reuse is the future. Our team is working with coalitions, restaurants, and businesses to make the shift from single-use plastic to reusable systems a reality. Here are some exciting updates:
🍴 We launched the Restaurant Assistance Microgrant Program to help small restaurants transition from single-use plastic foodware accessories (utensils, straws, cups, etc.) to reusable alternatives. Even Mayor Eric Garcetti joined the program kick-off at Mercado La Paloma!
🍴 Last week, we joined a conference with other leaders in the reuse movement. Restaurants, businesses, and organizations discussed the future of reuse across all ends of the spectrum.
🍴 As part of the Austin Reuse Coaliton, we are leading a volunteer program to survey single-use plastic at Austin restaurants to identify possible solutions.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to plastic in the sea. In this op-ed, we make a case for approaching plastic pollution with a sector-based lens.
