The National Employment First Community of Practice (CoP) Webinar Series augments the technical assistance areas of Employment First systems change (Capacity Building, Provider Transformation, School-to-Work Transition, Employer Engagement, and Policy/Funding Alignment). CoP participants benefit from national subject matter experts (SMEs) presenting information and resources to support Employment First efforts.

We invite you to join the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), the Department of Education, Health and Human Services and members of Federal Community Engagement Cross-Agency Workgroup, as we present a two-part series on Understanding Community Engagement and its role in expanding Competitive Integrated Employment.

Melissa has over 25 years of experience and expertise with the Public Rehabilitation Program, at the State and Federal level, and currently as a senior technical assistance and research analyst at the George Washington (GW) University. Her prior work with the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitative Services Administration for the State Monitoring Program Improvement Division offered invaluable experience and knowledge that now benefit several grant projects including the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition: The Collaborative (NTACT:C), and the Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Assistance Center for Quality Management (VRTAC:QM). Melissa also serves as adjunct in the Master?s program on Rehabilitation Counseling at the George Washington University, and recently completed her Doctoral coursework in Human and Organizational Learning, Executive Leadership Program.

University of North Carolina - Charlotte - Cato College of Education

Michael is a Knowledge Development and Technical Assistance Specialist with the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition: the Collaborative (NTACT:C), the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He has worked in the special education field for the past 37 years and has extensive experience in the areas of secondary transition, assessment, job analysis, supported and customized employment, transition communities of practice, effective transition planning, inter-agency collaboration, transition practices for students with complex support needs, family engagement, and youth leadership and self-advocacy.

On October 28, Renee Tajudeen, Supervisory Program Manager of ODEP?s Policy Communication and Outreach Division authored a blog titled, ?Advancing Disability Inclusion All Year Round.? The blog, which was posted as National Disability Employment Awareness Month concludes, draws attention to the advantages of employing workers with disabilities, provides ideas on how to foster a disability-friendly workplace and encourages employers to make advancing disability inclusion a year-round commitment.

Upcoming Webinar Reminder: Apprenticeship Intermediaries

This year celebrates the 85th anniversary of the passing of the National Apprenticeship Act of 1937 which established the Registered Apprenticeship Program. To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (Nov. 14-Nov. 20, 2022), the Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth is hosting a webinar with apprenticeship intermediaries on the evolution of apprenticeship, in general and for people with disabilities. This webinar will provide a brief overview of inclusive apprenticeships, feature speakers from apprenticeship intermediaries and highlight best practices to ensure apprenticeships are inclusive of youth & young adults with disabilities. The webinar takes place Tuesday, Nov 15, at 4:00 PM ET.
