WEST FARGO, N.D. – Republican Michael Howe issued the following statement on his election as North Dakota’s next Secretary of State.

“It is an incredible honor to have been elected Secretary of State,” Howe said. “Thank you to the people of North Dakota for placing their faith and trust in my ability to serve our state. Last night, North Dakotans affirmed our priorities and we’re eager to begin working to preserve and protect election integrity, make our state the easiest place to start a business, and ensure our natural resources prosper for future generations.”

Howe will succeed retiring Republican Secretary of State Al Jaeger who announced last year he would not seek re-election.

“I want to thank Secretary Jaeger for his commitment to North Dakota and congratulate him on a successful career of public service. I’m looking forward to building on his many successes.”

Howe will assume the duties of the office of Secretary of State on January 1, 2023.

About Michael

Michael Howe is a fifth-generation family farmer from Casselton.

In 2016 he ran for the legislature to fight for farmers, ranchers, small businesses and families because he believes our true strength comes from our people, not from the government. Today, Michael represents District 22, a largely rural area of Cass County, in the North Dakota House of Representatives.

In the legislature, Michael has fought to protect North Dakotans from government overreach and cut unnecessary regulations. In 2021 Howe stood up for small businesses and spearheaded legislation to safeguard businesses from frivolous lawsuits related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a business owner, Michael’s committed to cutting red tape to ensure that North Dakota is the easiest place to start and grow a business.

At 36, Howe is set to become the youngest Secretary of State in the nation. Michael and his wife Katie live in West Fargo.
