Dear 350 Chicago Supporters:
As we head into January 2023 and the start of the Illinois General Assembly's Spring Legislative Session, 350 Chicago is ramping up its State of Illinois Divestment Campaign. On the agenda will be meetings with State Legislators and fund managers of the six Illinois State Pension Funds and the four Chicago Funds that are managed by the State. We are demanding that our public monies no longer be used to support the fossil fuel industry, nor that the State continue to risk the financial security of our State and City pensioners by holding such investments.
To have more impactful meetings with legislators and fund managers, we urge you to add your voice and unique perspective to our advocacy work. At this time we are looking for pensioners in any of the six Illinois State Pension Funds: Illinois State Employees' Retirement System (SERS), State Universities Retirement System (SURS), Judges' Retirement System (JRS), General Assembly Retirement System (GARS), Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) and Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund (CTPF); or in one of the four City of Chicago Pension Funds that is managed by the State: Municipal Employees' Annuity & Benefit Fund of Chicago (MEABF), Laborers' & Retirement Board Employees' Annuity & Benefit Fund (LABF), Policemen's Annuity and Benefit Fund, Firemen's Annuity & Benefit Fund, and AON Hewitt - Pension Funds Tier 3 Plan Design Analysis for MEABF. ? If you are currently enrolled in or are already receiving a pension from one of these funds, would you be willing to participate in any of the following: endorsing our campaign, contacting your legislator, attending a meeting with a legislator and / or pension board?
In addition, if you are an employee or retiree who is represented by one of the public employee unions, for example AFSCME, SEIU, CTU or the Illinois Federation of Teachers, please let us know. Labor unions will be critical allies in our effort to win this Divestment Campaign. ?
Please respond to: [email protected] identifying your name, contact information, the relevant pension fund, and/or labor union with which you are affiliated.
In Solidarity,
Larry Coble
President, 350 Chicago Board of Directors
