Builders FirstSource to move to larger Texas facility | Amazon's Rivian vehicles now reach over 100 US cities | ScanSource reports $24M profit in fiscal Q1
Builders FirstSource announced it will relocate its lumberyard and building supply distribution center in Buda, Texas, to a larger building in Kyle, Texas, creating 40 new jobs. The building materials supplier will invest more than $16 million into the Texas Innovation Corridor with the move.
Since rolling out in July, Amazon has made 5 million deliveries in the US with its current fleet of more than 1,000 Rivian electric delivery vans, and expanded to include more than 100 cities. Amazon plans to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles operational by 2030, and says the expansion will help it eliminate millions of metric tons of carbon annually.

More companies are using reshoring and nearshoring options, including the "China plus one or two" strategy, which involves moving some operations to countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Mexico to reduce costs and to avoid delays and shortages. The moves are in line with the 2021 State of North America Manufacturing Report, which shows 83% of manufacturers are "likely" or "extremely likely" to add North American locations to their supply chain this year.
Logistics companies are realigning their workforces, shedding an estimated 20,000 jobs between September and October after adding 400,000 jobs between 2020 and 2021, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Trucking firms are the exception, with the addition of 13,200 positions in October following a loss of 9,500 jobs in September.
