Dear John,
As
we wind down at APHA 2022, we want to thank each of you for all you do to advance
public health and address some of the most pressing issues of our time. The last
few years have been tiring, and they've tested us all, but we know that together
we WILL create the healthiest nation.
We
hope you have enjoyed these daily insights into the Annual Meeting and some of
the content available to you, even without attending the meeting. We have one
more livestream available to you today, so be sure to tune in.

Featured Session
Where Do We Go from Here –
An Interactive Discussion of Strategies to Build the Public Health Workforce from
College to Commissioner
8:30-10:00 a.m
The governmental public health workforce is the most essential
element in our collective efforts to ensure a healthy nation, thriving and equitable
communities, and a strong economy. However, implementation and execution of the
workforce have often been scattershot and driven by available funding rather than
a strategic plan. In this session, five leaders will discuss the most pressing
issues in public health workforce development and how to ensure that we get it right. |
Building Public Health Capacity Through an Ethical
Lens to Address Social Challenges
2:30-4:00 p.m.
Optimal health and well-being can only be achieved if resources
and opportunities are equitably distributed among all communities. This session
will explore connections between the ethics, social justice issues and moral considerations
underlying public health, and how those connections can build a workforce that
tackles the social factors affecting our health.

What’s at Stake When Public Health Aligns with
(or Undermines) “Radical” Social Justice Movements
10:30 a.m.-12:00 a.m.
On the heels of a global pandemic,
racial justice uprisings, police violence, community violence and a "backlash"
narrative, the national dialogue on public health, justice and safety has become
politically charged and dynamic. This session will elevate the need for a comprehensive
public health infrastructure aligned with social justice movements.
