Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was open to “genuine peace talks” with Russia, following pressure from Western backers to signal readiness for negotiations amid concerns about the rising costs of the eight-month war, as the WSJ reports

Push for Weapons

Even as Ukrainian officials celebrate the arrival of more advanced Western air-defense systems and claim growing success at shooting down Russian rockets and drones, they are warning that Moscow is on the hunt for new long-range weapons against which Kyiv’s forces have little defense — specifically, ballistic missiles from Iran, as the NYT reports

Climate talks in Egypt overshadowed by shouting matches over human rights

Egypt hoped that hosting this year’s U.N. Climate Change Conference, known as COP27, would bring positive attention and prestige. But an outburst at a news conference Tuesday showed the country is struggling to stage manage the global event and keep the lid on domestic controversies, as the Washington Post reports
