The One-Minute Meeting

A shift in congressional power could mean significant changes in America’s COVID-19 response. A GOP House could launch investigations into Biden-era COVID-19 policies, could attempt to reverse mandatory vaccines for members of the military and other government workers and could doom a $47 billion COVID funding bill.

A record number of Americans are moving, at least temporarily, to Mexico. It may be that Americans are trying to escape inflation. It also may be fueled by the fact that so many employers allow remote work. I will show you the data that the Mexican government just released.

Deaths directly rated to alcohol consumption rose an astonishing 30% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Americans were already increasing their alcohol consumption before the pandemic but poured it on (or in) when COVID-19 locked us in. While men are more likely to die from alcohol-related illness, the overall trend was upward too. You will notice in the data that cold weather states like the Dakotas and Alaska saw some of the biggest increases in alcohol-related deaths. So did Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico.
