THANK YOU, VERMONT!
I am humbled, grateful, and excited beyond measure to be your Congresswoman-Elect.
Tonight we reaffirm that Vermont, and this nation, is still a place where anything is possible. We’re still capable of change and progress. Tonight, after 231 years, Vermonters are sending a woman to Congress for the first time.
To everyone who voted, knocked doors, made calls, chipped in, and helped us spread the word: This win belongs to YOU! I will never forget the enormity of your efforts, your hope and faith, and your deep commitment to this movement and to this state.
I know many of us feel like we are in dark times. And it can be easy to feel cynical about our politics. But if we had believed the conventional wisdom, if we had believed that change was impossible, I would not be here tonight. So please take note, and take heart: Vermont is a place where kindness, integrity, and courage matter. Vermont is a place where the daughter of an immigrant and a working class mom can become the first woman and first gay person to represent Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.
While our victory here tonight marks another leap forward in the movement for progress, massive challenges lay ahead. The future of our democracy, our planet, and our most fundamental rights will be impacted by the party that wins control of Congress tonight.
But no matter the outcome, I give you my word that I will not back down in Washington. I will carry your hopes and wishes with me. I will stay rooted in our communities here in Vermont, and fight for Vermont values with everything I have, including climate action, universal healthcare, liveable wages, reproductive rights, the safety of queer and trans people, racial equity, common sense gun laws, and a better life for the next generation.
So thank you, John, for your support, your time, your donations, your votes, and most of all, for trusting me to be your next member of Congress. Together, we have made history – and I’m so excited for what’s to come.
Your Congresswoman-Elect,
Becca Balint

Becca believes the best thoughts are not always from the loudest voices in the room. As President Pro Tem of the Vermont State Senate, she's led the charge to invest in affordable housing, fight climate change, enshrine reproductive freedom into our state's constitution, and so much more. Now, she's running for Congress to have a greater impact on more Vermonters. If you'd like to receive fewer emails and only see our most important updates, click here.
