Daily Docket — Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8
As of today, we’ve tracked 185 lawsuits filed in 2022 across 35 states. 108 of these lawsuits are currently active and ongoing. Now that we’re heading into the post-election period, we will continue to track post-election developments and litigation and provide daily updates. |
These polling locations extended their hours as of 6 p.m. EST: |
In Georgia, a court granted a request filed by the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration to keep two precinct locations open past the 7 p.m. EST deadline due to delays at the locations at the start of the day. In Gwinnett County, a court ordered the precinct 59 polling location, designated as Landmark Church at 3737 Holcomb Bridge Road in Norcross, to remain open until 7:08 p.m. EST.
In North Carolina, the North Carolina State Board of Elections extended polling hours to 8:30 p.m. EST at the Ransom precinct in Columbus County, Saratoga precinct in Wilson County and Gaddys precinct in Robeson County.
In Virginia, a court ordered a polling place at Blackstone Primary School in Blackstone, Virginia to extend its closing time to 8:00 p.m EST due to technical difficulties earlier in the day. Due to technical difficulties this morning, voting at the East Suffolk Recreation Center was extended to 7:20 p.m. EST.
Here are some other updates from today: |
During an emergency meeting this morning, Philadelphia’s three-member election board voted 2-1 to reinstate poll book reconciliation following pressure from a lawsuit sponsored by a right-wing conservative legal group. Poll book reconciliation is the process of amending voting records to denote if a voter has voted by mail; it is a time-consuming process that slows down the reporting of election results if it’s conducted before vote counting.
Yesterday, a federal judge issued an emergency order prohibiting election officials at a polling site in Beaumont, Texas from engaging in behavior that the county’s Black voters found to be intimidating and discriminatory.
