Dear Friend,
Thank you for all you did in 2019 to end the disastrous war on drugs. With help from donors like you, the Drug Policy Alliance has made great strides to end the criminalization of drugs and reduce the harms of drug use. We are looking forward to your continued support in 2020 and another strong year making significant change happen together.
The war on drugs is about criminalization and punishment. It marginalizes entire communities and creates unnecessary barriers to education, jobs, and housing.
And it comes at a cost.
More than 68,000 people died from an accidental drug overdose in 2018.
More than 1.4 million arrests for simple possession alone that introduced countless people to the criminal justice system in 2018.
More than $1 trillion in taxpayer money wasted enforcing the drug war over the last four decades.
As the leading drug policy reform organization in the U.S., we are working to end the war on drugs and its devastating harms, and build in its place an alternative approach grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights.
Together, we can make this a reality. We can end the criminalization of drugs and the people who use them and create policies that increase access to programs that promote health, safety, and education.
