FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SKAGIT COUNTY SNOWPLOW PRIORITY MAP NOW ONLINE
With the Holidays and Winter weather just around the corner, Skagit County Public Works and Skagit County Geographic Information Services (GIS) have jointly created an interactive Snowplow Priority Map that is available online to the Public at SKAGITCOUNTY.NET via its iMap service.
The map shows the roads that fall into two categories: First and Second Priority. This prioritization process was developed with Public Works Engineering, Transportation, and Operation staff input in an effort to keep essential traffic paths open for travelers and haulers of essential goods and services during a snow event by sanding and snowplowing operations.
Then Public Works staff worked closely with GIS to map these Priority Routes to better inform County residents and travelers. Of course, each County snow event is unique with different boundaries and snow levels which will inform each snow plowing response. However, having a prioritized list allows crews to be the most effective and efficient in this vital endeavor.
Skagit County has also linked to other local municipalities' and agencies' priority maps, such as: Anacortes, Mount Vernon, and Sedro-Woolley which can be found on our Road Closure Information page.
