President of MPAC, Salam Al-Marayati and I are proud to be consulting producers on this documentary short, which was a winner at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and is an Oscar contender.
Please join us in Los Angeles for the November 10th screening ([link removed]) of Stranger at the Gate at KPCC with John Horn or for the November 11th screening ([link removed]) in Irvine. Each screening will be followed by a discussion with Joshua Seftel, as well as cast members Bibi Bahrami and Richard “Mac” McKinney, about the film and its impact.
On November 13th in Los Angeles, we will be co-hosting the 7:40 pm screening of Venice Film Festival winner You Resemble Me by the very talented director, Dina Amer. A fireside chat with Dina and the Los Angeles Times’ Lorraine Ali will follow.

Executive Produced by Spike Lee, Riz Ahmed, and Alma Har'el, the film tells the harrowing story of a young woman named Hasna Aït Boulahcen, who was wrongly reported to be Europe’s first suicide bomber. We follow Hasna’s life and the trauma of betrayal from family, friends, and country that resulted in her radicalization. You Resemble Me shines a light on how extreme misfortune and the pursuit of belonging led one woman to follow a false faith that resulted in tragedy. You can see the trailer and read the review in Variety ([link removed]) . The film opened nationwide on November 4th and you can see it in Los Angeles at the Laemmle in North Hollywood ([link removed]) starting November 11th.
We hope to see you soon.
In peace,
Sue Obeidi
