Hi John,
Rishi Sunak has had his photo opportunity at COP27 - and now the real work begins.
Over the next 10 days, the UK government’s team will stay in Egypt for global negotiations on tackling the climate crisis. UK foreign, business and environment ministers will also be there to feed into the negotiations. Can you tell them to back real climate action at these crunch talks?

Rishi Sunak spent 3 days posing for photos, shaking hands and making promises. But although he made some of the right noises, it was nowhere near what we all needed to hear from him to help unlock progress. [1]
This means that the remaining 10 days of negotiations are critical - the UK government’s delegation must do much more to create tangible climate action. We urgently need the UK’s negotiators to take a lead on:
- Getting world leaders to commit to cutting global emissions faster than currently planned
- Ruling out all new fossil fuel projects now and creating new green jobs
- Supporting demands from developing countries who are calling for climate funding promises to be met and significantly increased
- Doing everything he can to secure the release of political prisoner Alaa Abd el-Fattah.
Can you tell the government’s team to show climate leadership at COP27?

This summer the whole world witnessed countless climate disasters. Europe had its worst drought in 500 years, a third of Pakistan was flooded and famine in East Africa caused a death every 36 seconds. [2]
The climate crisis is undoubtedly here, so we desperately need the UK government to lead negotiations that help deliver solutions to this unfolding emergency and support climate justice. Please tell them to step up: [link removed]
Thank you for everything you do,
