Dear Members and Supporters!
Big Thank You To All Participating or Supporting The National Demonstration
- The Movement Fights Back & We Continue to Strike, Protest & Resist!
Despite the rail strike and the rain, tens of thousands of activists from across the trade union and social movements joined this weekend's National Demonstration. It was a great show of strength, solidarity and unity in opposition to the Tories, the cost of living crisis and upcoming Tory austerity cuts. So big thank you all who attended! There were great speakers and much support for strikes and strikers, continued resistance and calls for a general election. This latter call was not as a solution to all the problems, but as a basic democratic demand. Currently we have an unelected and therefore undemocratic prime minister and his government is intent on imposing devastating austerity cuts and attacks to our living standards, trade unions and democratic rights.
So it's important we build upon the demonstration. Through collective and organised resistance we are powerful, we can bring down the government and can achieve the better world we deserve. If you are not currently a member of The People's Assembly, please join us via this link (scroll to the bottom of the webpage). We have a number of local groups throughout the U.K. and will support members to set up new groups in areas where none exists currently.
Please also join and get involved in unions and support all industrial actions.
Coordinated Day Of Local Actions Planned for Saturday 19th November Following the Government's Autumn Statement
The government's Autumn Statement will be out on Thursday 17th November. The Financial Times and other outlets say the government intends to make £33 billion in public spending cuts! Following 12 years of austerity cuts (where public services have been cut to the bone), a cost of living crisis and rising inflation, it's clear the government is again making ordinary people pay rather than the super rich. The People's Assembly is therefore planning a coordinated day of nationwide local actions on Saturday 19th November to protest this. We are currently talking to other groups to plan this.
