[[link removed]]Dear John,

If you’re struggling for resolutions, you can’t go wrong becoming a member of
Liberty.

JOIN LIBERTY →
[[link removed]]For 85 years Liberty members have been making the UK a fairer, more equal place
for everyone – but we need your help.

The Government has proposed blocking the Human Rights Act from applying to
incidents which occurred before 2000. This is a dangerously misguided plan which
would have prevented the Hillsborough families from finding the truth and
seeking justice.

And once the Act is edited for one purpose, it’s clear where its headed: some
rights for some people some of the time.

Our rights apply to all of us, all the time. Any revision that puts this at risk
must be resisted.

We’re also heading back to court in the first ever case against police use of
privacy-abusing facial recognition tech on our streets.

Our landmark legal challenge to a Public Spaces Protection Order which
criminalises homelessness will be in front of a judge for the first time.

And we will continue dismantling the racist hostile environment piece by piece.

We don’t expect it to be easy, but Liberty has never shied away from confronting
abuse of power wherever we find it. Join us and together we can change society
for the better.

With very best wishes for the new year,

Martha Spurrier

Director
