Latest Polling Predicts Election Night Victory for Republicans

• While the most important polling takes place today between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., a statewide poll conducted by the Defend Texas Liberty PAC shows Republican candidates holding a significant lead over Democrats across the state. Katy Drollinger has the story.
       
• The poll shows Republican Greg Abbott leading Democrat Robert “Beto” O’Rourke by 11 points – 53 percent to 42 percent. More importantly, the poll found O’Rourke to be significantly more personally unpopular than Abbott. For Abbott, his “favorable” rating is 51 percent, while O’Rourke only rated a 40 percent favorability.
     
• In the lieutenant governor race, Republican Dan Patrick leads Democrat Mike Collier by 8 percent. The race for attorney general has Republican Ken Paxton ahead of Democrat Rochelle Garza by 6 percent.
       

• The poll’s results reflect recent reports of Hispanic Texans shifting from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party because of record inflation, high gas prices, and the invasion at the southern border.

      
• “Texas Democrats haven’t won a statewide election in Texas this century and every poll we have conducted shows voters will once again shut them out this year,” said Jonathan Stickland, who leads Defend Texas Liberty. “Texas voters don’t want Democrats in charge.”

Entire State Board of Education Up For Election Day

• Composed of 15 districts around Texas, the State Board of Education currently has nine Republicans and six Democrats. Due to redistricting, all 15 districts are on the ballot today.
       
• The SBOE is primarily responsible for setting curriculum standards, approving instructional materials, and establishing graduation requirements.

Texas Congressmen Join Call For Impeachment Of DHS Secretary

• Six Republicans in Texas’ congressional delegation have joined an effort to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for failing to secure the southern border with Mexico. Meanwhile, reports Darrell Frost, two others have expressed interest in impeachment proceedings should Republicans win control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the upcoming midterms.
       
• Since President Biden’s inauguration last year, U.S. Border Patrol has apprehended more than 3.8 million illegal aliens at the southern border. This does not include the estimated 900,000 “known gotaways” who have entered the country illegally since the beginning of fiscal year 2021, nor the thousands more who crossed the border undetected.
      
• Still, Mayorkas has insisted the border is secure on multiple occasions.
       
• “Secretary Mayorkas has shown a complete contempt for the law, lied to Congress on numerous occasions and implemented a border plan that was designed to fail and endanger our country. He deserves to be impeached.” – U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne

Communities Pushing Back Against Drag Shows Targeting Kids

• While drag shows billed as “family friendly” are becoming pervasive across Texas and the country, more communities are pushing back against adult entertainment being targeted to children. Erin Anderson has the story.

      
• Last week, a coalition of local grassroots groups protested outside Fajita Kings restaurant while the “Golden Girls Trivia and Drag Show” – advertised as a “family-friendly event” – took place inside. Fajita Kings bragged afterwards that the controversy had ginned up business, saying protesters’ complaints had “expanded our fame and helped boost our sales.”
        

• Temple resident Elena Aydelotte said Fajita Kings “crossed the line” by holding a “lewd, sexually provocative adult show” and welcoming minors who were giving dollar bills to the drag queens.
