Dear John,

Rishi Sunak's fingerprints all over £70bn of wasteful and dubious spending

Rishi Sunak is preparing to slash public services and hike taxes to clean up a mess left by disastrous economic management by this government but new figures from Best for Britain show that he is far from a ‘safe pair of hands’ when it comes to the public finances. That’s why we need a General Election now. <[link removed]>

The UK Government has scandalously spent £69,222,884,250 since 2019.

That’s right, the latest update to Best for Britain’s Scandalous spending tracker (as reported in the Mirror) <[link removed]> shows that the taxpayer has shelled out nearly £70bn in wasteful and dubious government spending since 2019 – almost all under Rishi Sunak’s watch as Chancellor.

Recent additions to the tracker include over £3bn filling the civil service with agency workers, £120 million on the Festival of Brexit flop, and £1.3m forked out to help Sunak repair his shattered public image. Now, he’s making us all pay for it.

The total does not include the catastrophic hit to public finances from the government’s Brexit deal which has crippled businesses and economic growth, estimated to cost over £31bn last year. Similarly, it does not include the titanic economic cost of the disastrous mini-budget which increased bills for mortgage payers across the country and which ended Liz Truss’ premiership after 6 weeks.

Sunak is the fifth Tory PM in six years and the first in this parliament elected without the support of the public or even Conservative Party members. The UK can’t wait for a Government that will handle our public finances responsibly, properly fund our public services and help those most in need.

Tell your MP you want an immediate general election and add your voice to the call for a democratic choice. We can't wait another two years. <[link removed]>

Best wishes,

Naomi Smith

CEO, Best for Britain
