Leader McCarthy Meets with ZOA's Mort Klein, Issues Statement Condemning UC Berkeley Antisemitism

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) strongly thanks and praises Leader Kevin McCarthy for his powerful statement condemning antisemitism at UC Berkeley Law School, where 14 student groups are not allowing anyone to speak who merely supports Israel’s right to exist.

ZOA is honoring Leader Kevin McCarthy at our national Gala this Sunday evening, November 13 in NYC at Pier 60. He will receive the Dr. Miri & Sheldon G. Adelson Award for Defense of Israel, presented to him by Dr. Miri Adelson.

Other honorees include President Donald Trump, who will receive the Theodor Herzl Gold Medallion, presented to him by Dr. Miri Adelson; Jason Greenblatt, one of the architects of the Abraham Accords, who will receive the Dr. Bob Shillman Award presented by Prof. Alan Dershowitz; Israeli General Amir Avivi, who will receive the Myron Zimmerman Award; Ali Meli, who will receive the Steven Sass Award; and Joseph Lubeck, receiving the Louis D. Brandeis Award. ZOA National President Morton A. Klein will also be giving remarks after being introduced by Dr. Kiron Skinner, former Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. State Department. David I. Schoen, Chairman of the ZOA National Board, will serve as emcee.

Leader Kevin McCarthy's Statement:

Antisemitism is a scourge on our society and has no place in American life. For decades, Israel has not only been our greatest ally in the Middle East, but one of our greatest allies on the world stage. It is shameful that Berkeley Law, an institution which, on its own website, touts itself as “one of the most vibrant places on the planet,” would allow this type of prejudiced behavior to take place on its campus without any consequences for involved parties.

Berkeley Law must step up and immediately condemn these student groups to stop antisemitic behavior on campus. To turn a blind eye and continue to allow this blatant discrimination is un-American and runs directly counter to our values.

Founded in 1897, ZOA played a key role in the Jewish State's re-establishment. Today, ZOA is the leading major American Jewish organization courageously defending Israel and the Jewish people; fighting against all forms of antisemitism, including anti-Jewish boycotts; and promoting the Jewish people's lawful right to live in and settle historic Jewish lands. ZOA exposes that a Palestinian state would endanger Israel's existence; presents the facts about the Arab/Islamic war against Israel; and combats the anti-Israel lie that Israel is an "occupier" of her own land. ZOA spearheaded long battles to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and apply civil rights protections to Jewish students. ZOA provides free legal assistance and programs to pro-Israel students at numerous college campuses. ZOA's bold, unapologetic voice has a significant impact on public discourse and policy.
