[Pre-header]: Our weekly newsletter covering the 2022 election and news you can use!
Dear Friend,
This is it! Decision time for voters across the country and across our state. If you or your family members haven’t yet voted, you need to go to the polls tomorrow! Polls open at 7:00 a.m. We strongly recommend that you go in the morning and take care of this important civic duty before getting into the rest of your day and risking an unforeseen issue that prevents you from getting to your polling place in time. If you’ve received your ballot by mail be sure to drop it at a drop box today or tomorrow before 8:00 p.m.
Questions about voting? Check out this guide. Folks who are not registered can still register to vote and vote in person tomorrow.

Task Forces and Issue Campaigns Updates:
Health Care For All
On the national level, People’s Action launched a grassroots Care Over Cost campaign this year! Read more about it in the In These Times article about wrongful denials of claims by insurance companies like Elevance. PA’s Care Over Cost campaign We’re getting ready for the state legislative session which starts on January 11 where we’ll be working to lower Rx prices at the state level, end the burden of Medical Debt and to expand healthcare services for Marylanders in need. We need more folks to take part in this critical campaign to fight corporate greed in our healthcare system. To join us, contact Patty.
Campaign For Justice and Ending the War on Drugs
Justice is on the ballot this year! We’ve been door knocking and phone banking voters to urge a FOR vote on Question 4 to legalize cannabis. Punitive marijuana laws fueled mass incarceration and widespread racist policing practices.Legalization has many benefits, including redirecting public resources spent on thousands of arrests to community needs and social services.

State and National News:
People are voting tomorrow all over the country, every state – “the great mystery of democracy” as a 20th-century political sage called it will actually happen and the polls will be history, right or wrong. The era of early voting including mail-in has muddled that sense of one-day-settles-all. Here is the morning tally from Pluribus News: More than 40.5 million Americans have voted already this year, according to University of Florida political scientist Michael McDonald’s U.S. Elections Project. In the 23 states where voters register by party, Democrats hold a 43%-34% turnout edge.
