John,
I've spent my entire life fighting for working people. Walking picket lines and attending union rallies with my dad before I was old enough to vote. Volunteering on local political campaigns when I was in high school. Organizing my community to elect candidates up and down the ballot who would fight for our priorities.
Those are the values I took with me when I served in the legislature, passing bills to raise the minimum wage and provide Oregonians with paid sick days. Now, as Labor Commissioner, I fight for workers every day – combating wage theft and workplace discrimination and creating opportunities with our registered apprenticeship programs.
And those are the values that I'll take to Congress.
Let's be honest, John: Congress has too many multi-millionaires – in both parties – who can't relate to the struggles that our communities are facing right now because, quite frankly, it's not a part of their own experience. They can't understand it because they haven't lived it themselves.
When I'm in Congress, Oregon's working families will always be top of mind and first in line for me.
Thanks for being with me in this fight,
Val
