assistance to families fleeing violence and longing for safety in places
like Syria (see Christy’s note below) and Colombia, 2x as far to help
survivors rebuild their homes and businesses after hurricanes like Dorian
in the Bahamas and Maria in Puerto Rico, 2x as far to help farmers in
places like Indonesia and Kenya protect their crops from the growing
threats of climate change, and so much more.
You can do all this and more — when you give before midnight tonight. We
need to hear from you in these final hours of 2019. [ [link removed] ]The gift you make

Subject: [WATCH] 235,000 fleeing Idlib, Syria. Don’t wait: 2x your gift
today.

[ [link removed] ]Mercy Corps
Here in the last few days of the year, we want to focus
on the determination and hope of the families and communities we work with
around the world, and the impact your support provides.
But in the last few days of 2019, as so many of us have celebrated,
renewed airstrikes and bombings have forced more than 235,000 Syrians to
flee a frightful major offensive*. Roads in Idlib province, Syria were
crammed with vehicles as thunderous bombs and shelling closed in on
populated areas and families once again are seeking safety and shelter.
[ Give ]Give Now
I’m reaching out to you today because these families — like so many around
the world — can’t wait. And in these urgent moments, Mercy Corps is there.
We need your help to rush essential supplies and emergency cash to
families in Syria and so many other families in crisis. [ [link removed] ]Right now is
the perfect time to help, because when you make a gift it will go twice as
far as part of our year-end match: Until midnight tonight, gifts will be
matched $1-for-$1 up to $120,000.
[ Fleeing ]Fleeing Syria
Roads in Idlib province, Syria crammed with vehicles as more than 235,000
fled a frightful offensive in December 2019. With winter set in, the camps
where many of them are arriving are flooded, crowded and cold.
I’ve been on the phone with our teams in Syria and they’re describing how
thousands of innocent civilians have had no choice but to flee, and even
their escape is a violent and frightening affair. Fuel costs have
skyrocketed, and families are doing whatever they can to escape the
crisis, with cars and trucks lined up end-to-end on the roads and highways
as people desperately rushed to make their way out of danger.
"The roads are crammed with vehicles fleeing as the front lines continue
to shift. Between the collapse of the Syria pound and a fuel shortage,
many can barely afford to fuel their vehicles," said Wolfgang Gressmann,
Mercy Corps Syria Country Director.
Many families are heading north towards the Turkish border, where there
are camps set up from previous rounds of displacement. But as they arrive,
they find the camps are already overcrowded. With winter’s cold and rains,
the camps are flooded, crowded and cold, and we are hearing that many
tents have been destroyed by recent winter storms, making the overcrowding
even worse.
Yet, from years of working under some of the most difficult and rapidly
changing conditions, the Mercy Corps team in Idlib is strong and
experienced at meeting the needs of people on the run.
[ Make ]Make My Gift
In just the last week, Mercy Corps distributed clean water and new arrival
kits to more than 6,000 people. New arrival kits (value US $120) include
essential kitchen, household and hygiene items for families who have had
to evacuate their homes on very short notice, leaving many things behind.
Mercy Corps has more than 200 team members helping families in need across
northern Syria and is currently supporting people with resources including
kitchen and hygiene supplies, dignity kits for women, waste collection
from camps, building or repairing temporary shelters, and providing
heaters and other winter assistance.
Syrian families have
little to protect them from the elements as they flee, desperately
searching for safety, for warmth and peace for their families. We can’t
ignore this suffering, or pretend it isn’t happening. We can’t turn away
from those in need, or disregard the power we have to make a difference.
[ [link removed] ]You can do even more right now for families in Syria and around the
world, while your generosity and compassion will go twice as far. Please,
make a gift before midnight tonight, while it can be matched $1-for-$1,
and make an immediate impact for families in Syria, Colombia, Nigeria, and
beyond.
I know how generous the Mercy Corps community is. I have seen you stand up
time and time again in moments of crisis, and I have seen the relief you
have brought to families around the world. Today, I’m asking you to step
up again. [ [link removed] ]Will you help?
From all of the Mercy Corps teams around the world, thank you for your
deep compassion for people in need. None of what we do would be possible
without your support.
