Friends: The global maternal health emergency continues, and we are setting a goal to raise $40,000 to support lifesaving maternal health care.

I'll contribute to this goal: [link removed]

In the United States, where PIH works to improve public health and access to lifesaving health care, 1 in 3,000 women can expect to die in childbirth or pregnancy. That rate is far too high, especially for Black and Indigenous women. It paints a picture of a well-resourced health system hampered by inequity and structural violence.

In Sierra Leone, the maternal mortality rate is 150 times higher. There, because of historical injustice and an under-resourced health system, 1 and 20 women can expect to die in childbirth or pregnancy.

The global movement for maternal health seeks to make childbirth safer in both the United States and in Sierra Leone—everywhere in fact. That’s the power of solidarity, and that’s the movement you’ll be supporting if you join this donor challenge.
