keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The October NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to the October edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past month. October marked several major anniversaries for several institutions across our community and new beginnings for local businesses. Even though the leaves are changing, some things always stay the same: Northeast Wisconsinites continue to do amazing things. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. Semper Fi, Speaking at the Women's Luncheon: To kick off the month, I joined the Informed Women's Luncheon in Green Bay to discuss some of the pressing national security threats our country faces, from rising aggression out of China to the war in Ukraine. Celebrating Important Anniversaries: October marked the 90th anniversary of NEW Water and the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act being signed into law, and I was able to deliver remarks virtually at their celebration of these anniversaries. Between this landmark legislation and the local work by NEW Water, we have made tremendous progress in safeguarding the Great Lakes, our groundwater, and other freshwater sources for generations to come. Saluting our Veterans: This month, the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight took dozens of Northeast Wisconsin veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials that honor their service in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. They returned home to a celebratory crowd at Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport, and a member of my staff was honored to help welcome these veterans home. Rewarding an Incredible Educator: A member of my staff was able to attend a surprise event to celebrate Dan Van Boxtel, an automotive technology teacher at Kaukauna High School who was selected to receive the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools $50,000 prize. The money will go in part to the high school's skilled trades program, and the remainder will be for Dan to enjoy himself. A member of my staff also presented Dan with a congratulatory entry in the Congressional Record, the document that reflects the official proceedings of Congress. Opening up Shop: I was honored to join the local carpenters for their grand opening of their newly renovated labor hall. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters helps prepare Wisconsinites for the workforce and with their incredible apprenticeship programs they are a true asset to NEW. Honoring 150 years of Kimberly-Clark: A member of my team attended the 150th anniversary event for Kimberly-Clark in Neenah, and I was able to address the crowd virtually. The Fox Valley specifically has a long history of making high-quality paper products from start to finish, and that’s in large part thanks to the work of Kimberly-Clark, which has been a pioneer in the industry since it first opened its doors. Expanding NEW industry: I was proud to join the team at Marion Bodyworks for the ribbon cutting in honor of their expansion in Shawano. Marion Bodyworks is an incredible family owned company that has been building quality trucks for over 100 years. Congrats to Curt, Kevin and the entire Marion Family on this achievement! Lifting up Young Leaders: Eagle Scouts Isaac Manning and Edward Passel were honored at their respective Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremonies this month, and a member of my staff had the opportunity to attend both events. Throughout their scouting journeys, Isaac and Edward have demonstrated creativity, courage, and deep commitment to our community here in Northeast Wisconsin. I know they'll make a tremendous impact on whatever path they choose next. Eating Well in NEW: My staff attended the Delta Hotels by Marriot and the Urban 180 Restaurant ribbon cutting to celebrate the launch of their brand new menu. It was a wonderful event and I congratulate Urban 180 on their new venture.
