Dear John,

Unless you used a different email, it doesn't look like you registered for the 2022 APHA Annual Meeting and Expo, but we still want to keep you in the loop and share some resources and excitement from the meeting as we celebrate APHA's 150th anniversary and chart our course for the future of public health.

Monday General Session
150 Years of Public Health History
8:30-10 a.m. | BCEC Ballroom (Overflow in 205A)

APHA’s history is the history of public health in America. This session will explore our nation’s efforts to promote and protect our health through the lens of APHA's extraordinary history. The session will be moderated by Mike Stobbe, DrPH, National Medical Writer, Associated Press.

During the general session, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) will receive the 2022 Fries Prize for Improving Health. These organizations and the members they represent are being honored for saving and protecting millions of lives, including during the unprecedented challenges of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which represents the largest threat to health in more than a century.

Featured Sessions

Reproductive Health, Rights & Justice: Before, During and Beyond
10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | BCEC Ballroom

After the Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, reproductive freedom, including the right to choose abortion, was placed out of reach for many. This session brings together leading experts to discuss what advocates are doing to ensure access to all forms of reproductive health care and autonomy for all individuals and families.

Environmental Justice: Voices from the Frontline
2:30-4:00 p.m. | BCEC - West Ballroom

The first and most important step toward environmental justice and equitable health outcomes is to follow the lead of the communities that have been battling against structural racism for decades. In this featured session, community leaders will discuss the disproportionate health impacts they face and present strategies and solutions to bring about a more just society.

Health Determinants, Data and Decision-making
4:30-6:00 p.m. | BCEC - West Ballroom

In April 2020, the Rockefeller Foundation and Boston University School of Public Health launched the Commission on Health Determinants, Data, and Decision-Making, known as the 3-D Commission. The Commission sought to explore the key social and economic drivers that influence health outcomes and illustrate how data on social determinants of health can be integrated into decision-making to improve the health of all. This session will discuss the resulting report and its implications for better decision-making for global health.

Annual Meeting COVID-19 Safety Policy
APHA is requiring all in-person attendees to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination against the SARS-Cov-2 virus as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Up to date is defined as a completed full primary series (two shots of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccine or one shot of the Johnson and Johnson product; or a comparably approved vaccine if you are an international attendee) plus at least one booster.

We encourage people who are eligible for the new COVID-19 bivalent booster to receive it and their flu vaccination at least two weeks before the meeting.

You will be required to show proof of vaccination during event check-in. By registering for the event, you agree to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by Oct. 20, 2022.

Also, all APHA 2022 in-person attendees, exhibitors, speakers, staff and volunteers will be required to wear masks at indoor activities.
