John,
While we don’t know what the outcomes will be tomorrow, or even when they will come, one thing is clear:
Our work is just beginning.
We know election deniers are unlikely to accept defeat at the polls. Whether it’s trying to throw out absentee ballots, tie-up races in the courts, or god forbid much worse, they have told us in no uncertain terms the will of the people hardly matters to them in their reckless reach for power.
The work you’re doing to protect our elections and defeat these authoritarians cannot stop on election day. Not for a moment.
Our Action Center will keep you up-to-date with the latest news and most concrete steps you can take to protect our democracy for as long as it takes, no matter how long these elections take to resolve. Whether it’s proving signatures on mail-in votes, remedying provisional ballots, or witnessing recounts, there will be plenty of opportunities to help pro-democracy candidates in the weeks to come.
But our work together will hardly be done then either.
We are busy preparing for the municipal elections this spring where authoritarians are looking to take over our school boards and local governments. And we are already laying the groundwork for 2024, forging new partnerships, planning new trainings and events, and building new tools to give strength to the voice of democracy.
But while you still have the chance, please, have one more conversation with someone who might not realize what’s at stake tomorrow. Knock on one more door. Make one more phone call. The more people who truly understand the importance of tomorrow’s elections, the more people will turn out to make sure they’re not the last.
Together,
Angus
