Dear John,
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to put this decade to rest.
It began with one of the most disastrous events in my lifetime — the Supreme Court’s shameful Citizens United decision, which put a for-sale sign on our democracy — and ends with Donald Trump in the White House, filling his administration with corporate shills, inviting foreign powers to interfere in our elections, and trampling on our Constitution nearly every day.
Trump is the consequence, rather than the cause, of this anti-democratic surge.
Here at Inequality Media, we’ve been fighting back against America’s relentless march toward oligarchy since 2014. This fight hasn’t been easy, but I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done over the years.
Here’s just a small sampling of what we’ve accomplished this year, thanks to the support of people like you:
- We exposed all of the lies that Trump and Republicans told about their massive tax handout to the wealthy and corporations, and punctured the myth of trickle-down economics.
- We debunked Trump and Republicans’ false narrative that they are the party of the working class, revealing them to be bought-and-paid-for politicians beholden to special interests and big money.
- We fought back against the GOP’s xenophobic and cruel immigration agenda, debunking their lie that immigration is bad for America.
- We spread the truth about why a wealth tax will be good for the economy, taking on all the billionaires’ complaints about finally paying their fair share.
- We gave the American public the crucial historical context about impeachment, explaining what the Framers had in mind when they wrote it into the Constitution.
- We broke down all the ways Trump has personally profited from the presidency in his repeated violations of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
And so much more.
But given the wave of disinformation that we’re up against, we’re gearing up to do even more in 2020, including:
- Putting out daily rapid response videos debunking the daily lies emanating from the White House and Fox News.
- Delving even deeper into how Trump’s economic policies have been a total failure.
- Exposing each and every one of Trump’s failed campaign promises, from his barely-built border wall to his underwhelming economy.
- Explaining why we are on the cusp of a new era of bold progressivism that will rectify the previous decade of inequality and corruption.
- Clarifying the difference between democratic socialism (which we need) and socialism-communism.
- Driving home how the real division in America is not right vs. left, but democracy vs. oligarchy — between the vast majority who haven’t had a raise in forty years and a small group who have siphoned off a disproportionate amount of the economic gains for themselves.
- Showing why big money must be eradicated from American politics if democracy is to survive.
And again, that’s only a sampling of what we have planned.
With your support, we’re going to double down on our efforts to ensure that 2020 is the first year in a decade of true economic prosperity for all Americans, not just those at the top.
