Hi John.

It’s clear that we’ve been too reliant on foreign manufacturers for far too long.

This certainly became clear at the height of the pandemic. Our country couldn’t make enough lifesaving protective gear quickly enough. Then, continued strains on our supply chains helped drive up prices around the globe.

So instead of scoring political points and stoking division, I got to work on solutions. That includes serving as a key negotiator with Republicans and Democrats to finalize a major new American manufacturing law. It’s time to make more products and jobs here – not China.

I was honored to work with Kansas Senator Jerry Moran to get the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act across the finish line. It’s a great example of how we can work together to build a better future – with more jobs and lower prices.

The bipartisan CHIPS and Science law is about securing American supply chains, lowering costs, and creating good paying American jobs.

Here are just a few examples of how it does that:

Investing in Advanced American Manufacturing. Semiconductor chips are used in everything from cars to medical devices to consumer goods. Unfortunately, a chip shortage contributed to inflation and drove up prices on many products. That impacted Kansas businesses, including the General Motors Fairfax Assembly & Stamping Plant. That facility idled for several months last year due to the shortage, forcing their 2,000 workers to stay home.

The new bipartisan law helps change that. It supports U.S. manufacturers so we can make our own American made semiconductor chips here at home. It also includes more support for smaller and medium sized manufacturers – something I’ve pushed long and hard for.

Supporting our Workforce. The bipartisan CHIPS and Science law will help create 100,000 new, good paying jobs nationwide. It supports local workforce development and training programs to connect people with employment. It also supports education and training in groundbreaking fields like science, technology, engineering, and math.

Driving American Innovation. The law also turbocharges U.S. research and development, so we can back American innovation and ensure new technologies are made here at home.

This law is a great example of the kind of concrete and bipartisan solutions we need to build a better future – with more jobs and lower prices. I understand folks are frustrated by partisan bickering. As I see it, everyone deserves a government that works for them – whether we agree on everything or not.

I believe we can continue to listen to each other and find common ground. The last thing anyone needs right now is more extremism and empty promises.

And as I keep working on concrete and bipartisan solutions to lower costs, remember that you can visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources for you and your family.

I’m always here to serve you – regardless of party.

My warmest regards,
