Dear John:

As your Representative, I am honored to bring the values and priorities of Minnesota's 7th District to Washington, D.C. and I am committed to improving life for everyone in western Minnesota and across the country. That is why I am excited to be a part of the Republicans' Commitment to America, because it encompasses so many of the values and goals I have already been working towards.

A Strong Economy

In order to get this country's economy back on track, we need to:

1. Fight inflation and lower the cost of living

We need to curb the wasteful government spending that is raising the price of just about everything including gas, groceries, and housing. We also need to increase take-home pay, create good-paying jobs, and bring stability to the economy through pro-growth tax and deregulatory policies.

2. Make American energy independent and reduce gas prices

We need to maximize production of reliable, cleaner, American-made energy and cut the permitting process time in half to reduce reliance on foreign countries to lower the cost of gas and utilities. This year, I introduced the Gas Prices Relief Act, which would stop all policies that target American energy production - like revoking permits - until Americans start seeing gas prices at $2.60, like they were before the Biden Administration.

3. Strengthen the supply chain and end dependence on China

We need to move our supply chains away from China, expand U.S. manufacturing, and enhance America's economic competitiveness. This Congress, I introduced the SHIP IT Act, which would improve the supply chain by targeting specific needs in ports, shipping, and trucking. Portions of this legislation were incorporated in the Ocean Shipping Reform Act earlier this year.

A Safe Nation

1. Secure the border and combat illegal immigration

Under this Administration, we are having a record number of illegal border crossings, and the leadership cannot answer simple questions about how they are going to stop it. We need to fully fund effective border enforcement strategies, infrastructure, and advanced technology to prevent illegal crossings and trafficking by cartels. We need to end the catch-and-release loopholes, require legal status to get a job, and eliminate welfare incentives. And, we need to support our border patrol, who are risking their lives every day while being restricted from effectively carrying our their mission.

2. Reduce crime and protect public safety

Republicans have a plan to support 200,000 more police officers through recruiting bonuses, and I have introduced legislation which includes a grant program for individuals committed to entering a law enforcement or criminal justice related field. We also need to crack down on prosecutors and district attorneys who refuse to do their jobs. And, we need to permanently criminalize all forms of illicit fentanyl. I have tried to do this twice now, and my efforts were blocked.

3. Defend America's national security

Because of this Administration's incompetence, America's national security is weakened. Biden has forced us to look for help from foreign adversaries like Russia and Iran for our energy needs, putting both us and our allies at risk, and his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan left billions of dollars worth of military equipment in the hands of the Taliban and killed 13 U.S. service members. We need to support our troops and invest in an efficient, effective military and we need to exercise peace through strength.

A Future Built on Freedom

1. Make sure every student can succeed and give parents a voice.

Earlier this year, DHS Sec. Mayorkas instructed the FBI to look into parents. These parents were not domestic terrorists. They were simply loving parents who were concerned about the quality of education their children are receiving. I joined my colleagues in writing to the FBI director to ensure they were not wrongfully targeting concerned parents.

2. Achieve longer, healthier lives for all Americans

The Democrats' drug pricing scheme is going to mean higher prices and fewer cures, according to the Congressional Budget Office. We need to personalize care to provide affordable options and better quality, delivered by trusted doctors. We need to lower prices through transparency, choice, and competition, incest in live-saving cures, and improve access to telemedicine. We also need to save and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.

An Accountable Government

1. Preserve our constitutional freedoms

Our constitutional freedoms are at stake. We need to do everything we can to uphold free speech, protect the lives of unborn children and their mothers, guarantee religious freedom, and safeguard the 2nd Amendment. I have been working vigorously on these issues and promise I will continue to do so.

2. Hold Washington accountable

We need to conduct rigorous oversight to rein in government abuse of power and corruption, provide real transparency, and require the White House to answer for its incompetence at home and abroad. I have been working towards this by regularly sending letters to this Administration demanding explanations for their policy decisions and assurance of honest and accurate government spending, like this letter to the USDA following the Feeding Our Future scandal.

3. Restore the people's voice

I have always been an advocate for election safeguards that make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. But, this Congress passed a bill that amounts to a power grab empowering the Attorney General to bully states and strip states and local governments of the ability to manage their own elections. We need to increase accountability in the elections process through voter ID laws, accurate voter rolls, and observer access, not by restricting the power of the states.

Thank you for reading!

As always, my office is open and ready to serve constituents of Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help. Have a great week!

Sincerely,
