The Nashua Telegraph Endorses Chris Sununu!

Sununu is right choice

New Hampshire consistently ranks among the top states in the nation in multiple economic indicators, its friendliness to small businesses, access to health care, safety and places to live.

The Granite State has the lowest poverty rate in the nation and is tied for fourth with Nebraska for the lowest unemployment rate – 2.2% – in the country. We also are ranked as the safest state in America.

New Hampshire may be small, with just 1.35 million residents, but we certainly are mighty.

Much of this is thanks to the steady leadership of our governor, Chris Sununu, who is seeking his fourth term in Tuesday’s election, facing Democrat Sen. Tom Sherman.

Throughout his nearly six years in Concord, Sununu has guided the state with a fiscally conservative hand that has led to economic growth and unprecedented prosperity. His leadership has led to more than $1 billion in tax savings to Granite Staters over the next decade; he has lowered the meals and rooms tax by 5.5%; and allocated $400 million to New Hampshire small businesses through the Main Street Relief Fund. He also has halted calls for a state income tax, lowered business taxes, stopped a push for a 17-cent-a-gallon gas tax hike and defended the state’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, in addition to his efforts to lower the state’s high property taxes.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Sununu ensured Granite State families were safe by providing funding and support to our health care systems, its workers and first responders, while working to flatten the curve and make vaccines available to all. He also provided relief for small businesses and made sure our neighbors who were unable to pay due to their financial circumstances were safe from possible evictions. His response to this once-in-a-lifetime situation led to much praise from Washington and other states and likely saved tens of thousands of lives.

In addition, Sununu – the son of former New Hampshire governor and former White House Chief of Staff (to former President George H.W. Bush) John H. Sununu – also has done much to support the state’s military veterans, mental health efforts, infrastructure development and broadband access.

For education, he established full-day kindergarten; launched the New Hampshire Career Academy, making free college tuition possible for New Hampshire high schoolers at no cost to taxpayers; froze tuition at the University and Community College System; and created Education Freedom Accounts, providing flexibility for families and students to receive the education that best fits their needs.

Sununu – who has endorsed Gen. Don Bolduc, a Republican, in his U.S. Senate race against incumbent Maggie Hassan, and Karoline Leavitt, a Republican, who is facing incumbent Chris Pappas in the U.S. House (District 1) race – has New Hampshire’s best interest at heart, as shown in the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce’s Candidate Series debate. The Telegraph was the media partner for the late-October event – available for viewing on The Telegraph’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheTelegraph. Sununu not only skillfully and respectfully debated Sherman on key issues, but he also talked about his willingness to work across the aisle to accomplish what’s best for all Granite Staters.

With this in mind, and considering Sununu’s many accomplishments, deft and responsible leadership and values-based ideals, New Hampshire is keenly positioned for success, which will make the Granite State a brighter and even better place to live for many decades to come.

New Hampshire is fortunate to have Chris Sununu in Concord, and we encourage voters to return him to the capital for another two years.
